MUL STATEMENT ON REPORTS THAT OBAMA WILL REVOKE PROTECTIONS FOR PRO-LIFE MEDICAL PROVIDERS
03/04/2009

St. Louis - March 4, 2009 - Missourians United for Life President Ed Martin today issued the following statement on reports that President Obama plans to rescind a federal rule that protects medical providers who, for religious or moral reasons, decline to perform abortions:

"Missourians United for Life is very concerned about reports that President Barack Obama is planning to take yet another action to end protections safeguarding the sanctity of human life. President Obama is apparently targeting faith-based health care providers who decline to perform abortions with his plan to strip them of their rights of conscience.

"During the campaign, President Obama tried to change the subject when his extreme pro-abortion record was exposed, but his actions over the last 38 days show that promoting and supporting abortion was always one of his top priorities. Obama has already promised to sign the so-called Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) to overturn state laws protecting life. He repealed the Mexico City policy so he could send our tax dollars to fund overseas abortion. And his liberal helpers in Congress like Senator Claire McCaskill are doing his bidding by blocking pro-life amendments.

"Missourians United for Life is asking pro-life Missourians to contact their member of Congress and our two Senators to express their opposition to any action by President Obama to end pro-life protections for faith-based health care providers."
