PLANNED PARENTHOOD PROMISES 'SEX,' 'FREE CONDOMS,' AT 'RAUCOUS' BURLESQUE FUNDRAISER IN ST. LOUIS
03/03/2009

St. Louis - March 3, 2009 - Planned Parenthood, known for its fundraising for pro-abortion politicians, is promising "Sex, Politics and Cocktails" at what they claim will be a "raucous evening" at the Atomic Cowboy in St. Louis with entertainment by Clownvis Presley, burlesque with Lola van Ella, free condoms, cocktails and "much more."

Planned Parenthood said the party was organized to "prove the theory that sex, politics and cocktails always go together." At the event, Planned Parenthood volunteers will give away "Proper Attire" condoms - which they call "the organization's new brand of protection that is 'Required for Entry.'' The cover charge of $5 and 10 percent of all bar sales will go directly to Planned Parenthood, meaning the money will end up in the pockets of pro-abortion politicians.

Missourians United for Life obtained the Planned Parenthood e-mail invitation for the event which was sent by Tom Barry, the Vice President for Development at Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri.

"Planned Parenthood and the pro-abortion politicians to whom they give money are completely out of step with Missouri's views and values," said State Senator Jane Cunningham. "Planned Parenthood has been exploiting women for years and they continue to exploit them with events in which women are treated as sex objects. I am deeply concerned that during her tenure Margaret Donnelly, the Director of Health and Senior Services, will funnel taxpayer money to Planned Parenthood or one of their affiliates which will be used to promote abortion and encourage events like this disrespectful fundraiser. I will be watching Donnelly and all of state government and will consider filing amendments to prevent the spending of taxpayer dollars to promote abortion."

Missourians United for Life is calling on Jay Nixon, Robin Carnahan, Clint Zweifel and Susan Montee and other pro-abortion elected officials to pledge not to accept any of the proceeds from the party for their campaigns.

"We hope this is not the kind of event that politicians like Jay Nixon, Robin Carnahan, Clint Zweifel and Susan Montee or any other elected official or candidate wants to be associated with so we ask for their pledge not to accept a penny of the proceeds collected at this event," said Ed Martin, President of Missourians United for Life.

Missourians United for Life also questioned whether any of the money funneled to Planned Parenthood by the Missouri Foundation for Health is being used for the evening of "Sex, Politics and Cocktails." As Attorney General, Jay Nixon created the Missouri Foundation for Health as part of a settlement with Blue Cross/Blue Shield, but instead of using all of the money for health care as was intended, Nixon routinely used the Foundation as a slush fund for liberal special interest groups including Planned Parenthood.
